These are good shoes, really. I admit that I am a fan of Rockport, but not all of the models they make are this good. This sneaker is part of a series of Rockport models called "Cold Springs." These "Sneakers" are well built, but I wouldn't exactly call it a sneaker. This is not a summer weight shoe because it is durably built, so it's more of a trail shoe or winter shoe. I use heavier socks when wearing them. Yet. it is good looking and dressy enough for some occasions. So I ordered the this Cold Springs Plus Low Tie Sneaker in a 13M because I also own the Rockport Men's Cold Springs Plus MC Toe Snow Boot in a 13M and I absolutely love that boot. In fact I own 2 pairs of the boot. Happily the new Sneaker fit the same. So now I am assuming that all of the Cold Springs series of Rockports are made using the same sole and form. Good to know. I usually take a 13M in most shoes if I want room for my toes, but sometimes a 12M will do in some brands. But finding shoes with good arch support and shaped to fit my foot is difficult. I believe they would classify my foot shape as "Roman" so I need more room in the toe box, but I don't want it wide in the heel. The Rockport Cold Springs are a good fit for me. They support the whole foot evenly and with stability. The HydroShield water proofing works well. For example, with my Cold Springs boots I've walked through puddles that washed clean over the toe box and they never leaked. Of course those are high-top boots with a fully gusseted tongue. I won't be stomping through puddles in the sneakers because they're not high-tops, but they have certainly stayed dry in rain so far. Eventually I will treat them with a high quality spray-on sealer, but I haven't so far. Didn't need to. But in all fairness, I usually do treat all of my winter shoes and boots with a sealer. I typically use the types of sealers intended for use on performance fabrics, jackets and gear, so I'm sure that helps keep them leak free over their life. Having said that, I reiterate that my other Cold Springs boots haven't leaked yet and they're a few years old. So I pretty sure this new sneaker will be a dry shoe over the long haul.
